Essential Skills
November 4, 2009
The Essential Skills initiative was developed in partnership with the Government of Canada, international agencies and employers. Through extensive research, they identified and validated nine skills that are used in nearly every occupation and throughout daily life, at varying levels of complexity. Using these nine skills, over 300 occupational profiles have been developed which correspond to NOC codes.
Using the occupational profiles from Essential Skills helps us further support your clients in an effective and efficient return to work plan. By focusing on skills that are vital to occupational success, we provide educational programs that are relevant and realistic.
By presenting Essential Skills through our Integrated Learning Model, clients have a chance to develop technical skills concurrently with personal skills including conflict resolution, personal organization, team skills and effective communication. This ensures clients are better prepared for the real demands of returning to work.
If you would like further information about Essential Skills training and how it will benefit your client, speak to your local Grade Expectations Learning Centre manager or contact our Head Office.
