Fostering Independence
December 4, 2009
As a part of our “Ready, Willing and Able” philosophy towards student programming and preparation, Grade Expectations Learning Centres encourages the development of personal accountability and self- management through the use of our Integrated Learning Model.
Beyond mastering required technical skills and knowledge, our clients are further challenged to take more responsibility and accountability for their learning and program outcomes. Within the Facilitated Learning phase, clients learn to achieve goals as a team and thus recognize their responsibility as a learner and as a team member. Furthermore, with the instructor taking a more collaborative approach, clients have more ownership over the direction of their learning
The final and most important link in our Integrated Learning Model is the Independent Learning phase. Clients have a safe and low risk environment to further develop and strengthen their self-management skills. From time management to project management, clients experience the full scope of returning to work or a higher learning environment will provide. Constant feedback and monitoring enables clients to find independent success. Moreover, clients are more involved in setting the direction of their learning and thus, more motivated and engaged.
