Featured Success Story: Aurora
March 29, 2010
Grade's Integrated Learning Model (ILM) has increased the standards of individualized adult education. Focused on the learner's needs and moving beyond standard textbook assignments, ILM's purpose is to help each student achieve their learning goals.
Grade Expectations Aurora has embraced ILM and its positive effect on student success. Recently, lead facilitator, Magda Debney, noticed that her students were becoming overwhelmed by life's struggles and were lacking confidence as they were preparing to re-enter the workforce. Magda wanted her students to feel empowered and successful. Her solution was a session with selected students to discuss how to overcome fear and how to set goals that increase confidence and on-the-job success. Students engaged in activities where they learned the basics of goal setting as well as how to change self-defeating behaviours. For many students, this is the first time that anyone had explained to them how create success in life. One particular student remarked to Magda, "This was just the inspiration I needed to make things different." That is what true education is about - way to go Magda and the Aurora team!
